Did you fasten your seat belts? You have none? Perfect, let’s go!
There’s something wrong with modern computers. And with decades old ones, too. You don’t really want to know what it is, ignorance is bliss after all, but I will tell you anyway. They all share the same vulnerability that is only now starting to see the light of day. Every single computing device you own can leak secrets via one neat little attack.
I’m not going to bore this particular audience with specifics, but do know that I am not joking around here. The vulnerability is present in nearly all processors made over the last twenty-something years. Your laptop, phone, smart fridge, nothing is safe. There isn’t even a proper fix for this, and I can’t imagine your phone even getting it if we ever figure it out.
Meltdown and Spectre are going to haunt computers for many, many years to come, and there’s nothing you can do about it.
