Oh man, it’s thirty minutes past my usual bedtime and I’m only just now starting to wrap up.
I believe I mentioned this before, but I have started my journey of ascending to the next stage of weebhood (weebdom? weebness?) by learning Japanese. I’ve got a good grasp on the Kana writing systems now, the phonetics. That’s the easiest part though. Now comes the vocabulary, and with that, the Kanji. They’re the thousands of different characters that mean and make up words. Yes, it’s as fun as it sounds.
Luckily there’s plenty of great resources out there for learning those, along with the grammar that helps them all make sense. And most such resources are available for free! That’s still going to be a great big challenge though, but at least I got one thing going for me: I’ve already soaked in a lot of the language through the media I consume.
Granted, it’s only been auditory up until this week (“what the fuck do these moonrunes mean?”), but it’s a start nonetheless. Some of the first few words I’m learning already sound very familiar to me! And I can recognize a fair amount of their derivatives, too. This feels like a nice little push off the ground, and only motivates me further to go on.
Can’t wait to be able to read like a shitty children’s book or something!
