I have put a big task on my to-do list, neglecting to break it up into smaller pieces.
This is a problem. Not because the size of the task makes it insurmountable, but because it seems that way. This has caused me to put it off for almost two weeks now, even though time is of the essence. Ideally, I get this done before mid-October. Realistically, that’s going to be hard work and lots of improvisational problem solving.
I’ve been meaning to get rid of WordPress for some time now. Leave the unused cruft behind, move to a simpler, theoretically more performant system. Maybe something I cobbled together myself. It’d be perfect if I could coincide this with a move to a VPS, a server I can actually manage myself. I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time.
But to make that happen, I need to cook that new system up, convert all my posts and all your comments to fit whatever format it requires (something simpler, hopefully!), thoroughly test the thing for all the obvious security mistakes I’m liable to make, and then actually set that self-managed server up properly.
And look, there it is! Those aren’t tasks as small as I’d like them, but it’s a good start!
