Large data

Holy shit hard drive sharing isn’t dead.

Remember back in the day when people would share physical storage media to share large files, like games, movies or music? I made the mistake of thinking that, due to streaming and people actually paying to own those things again, this had gone away. Maybe it actually has, maybe I’m just experiencing a rare exception. Whatever the case though, I’m staring at a a 2TB hard drive, about half full with music.

In the past you’d swap CDs to share albums, maybe a 50GB hard drive or something if people were on top of their game. Nowadays, when people are on top of their game, those hard drives are just many times larger! As someone who’s slowly getting obsessed with data hoarding, this pleases me. No need to eat up all that bandwidth, just literally carry the data over and plug it in!

Can’t wait to spend all my paychecks on a home server with too much storage for its own good.

It’s been a long time since I heard of anyone sharing media like that. But to be fair it’s still not convenient to send data from one computer to another wirelessly. Or the services I tried for it were never any good.
