Working for a big company has its perks.
Happy workers are efficient workers. Culture plays a big role in that, but everything else secondary to salary also plays a really important role. Big companies have big money, and thus plenty of resources to make that happen. Transport costs, insurance, smartphones, lease cars. It’s not like you can just hand them out like candy, but might be something for people to work towards.
It’s weird, I actually have a new (read: additional) smartphone now. The company paid for it, comes with a data plan and everything. Of course, I need this to be able to call into meetings if get stuck in commute or whatever, and this way I won’t run out of credit in the midst of making business calls. Being able to physically separate business from personal like this is a nice bonus too.
Still, it’s an odd experience for a newcomer like me. But hey, a one-off payment of a couple hundred Euros is nothing to my department, let alone the company as a whole. Hell, it’s not even that much compared to my salary.
It’s just so much more tangible.
