Just when I had almost forgotten what it was like struggling to understand something…
Urbit, being the clean-slate software stack it is, offers so many new things to learn. Usually, they turn out to be simpler than you would’ve expected. But others really do fulfill your expectations… and then some. I’m still not sure if this is actually non-trivial or if it’s just me, because after all the “oh that was easy”s I’ve had so far, I assumed everything else was just more of the same.
And it’s super frustrating. After all the help and explanations I’ve gotten I think I have a somewhat decent grasp on the difficult topic, and I can see it appear and relate to other things in the code, but I still need to be able to use it to my advantage.
Turns out the actual thing blocking me wasn’t a lack of understanding but rather a tiny, unrelated error. Still, the path to figuring that out has taught me lots of new things, so I can proceed more confidently now.
Tomorrow, we ride again.
