Is it still hip for me to say Old Skool Kool?
There’s a lot of old tech out there. Youngsters of the present day would call it antiquated, but truth is probably closer to it being “just old” and “obsoleted”. Legacy, if you will. And while it’s certainly true that it’s past its prime and pushed off its spot by more modern technology, chances are it’ll forever have a place in someone’s heart.
For some it’s a mystery thing, like how years and years of guesswork still haven’t gotten us intimately close with the inner machinations of old console hardware. For others, it may be a more practical matter, a comfort that can no longer be found in the “latest and greatest”. I have that with 3×4 T9 keyboards, with functional word recognition, for typing regular texts. It was fast and accurate, even with one hand. That’s something few will be able to say about QWERTY touch keyboards.
But it’s all old, phased out. You’ll have a rough time finding users who still support it, let alone developers working on it. That’s just the way the news goes with these things. In with the new, out with the old.
I wonder how many people will be using text to speech in fifty years.
