Give it flair

I’ve barely played little over an hour of the new Pokemon games, but I can already tell you they’re comparatively good.

Sure, new Pokemon game, another hundred(?) critters added to the counter. Where does that leave us? Too many. Still, the game’s engine seems to have gone through some nice improvements. Lots of fancy camera work, even larger and more life-like models for the human characters, and so much juice. Even the numbers are very much alive and animated, just popping of your screen.

And right off the bat, you’re hit with a truckload of culture. Previous iterations of the ever-beloved series just had you move into some town in some place, all kind of bland and generic. But this time around, you arrive on an island not unlike stereotypical Hawaii. The sunny atmosphere pervades every area you explore, all the people you speak to. There’s a strong sense of culture, unlike anything a Pokemon game has given me before.

Maybe that’s just a side effect of playing after long and tiring days though, who knows.

I do think it’s not as bad as everyone was making out it would be. I’d just like them to include some explanation for the regional variants in the game. Maybe they will and I just haven’t gotten there yet. I’m not sure how I feel about replacing gym battles with trials yet. I’ll have to wait until after my first one. I’ve been playing four hours and I haven’t gotten a “badge” yet. I don’t know if that’s good or bad.

Lol, how? I have slightly over two hours on the timer iirc and have just moved past the first trial, after lots of searching the grass for cool new creatures to discover. (Cutiefly a bae!) Yes, I’m going in entirely blind.
