My monitor is messing me up.
Ever since I upgraded my setup, adjustable desk and all, my laptop has been giving me little jolts of electricity whenever I touched it lightly. Not something I had noticed before, and certainly an unpleasant surprise every time it hit me. I did some poking around, unplugging cables, and found out the monitor I had introduced into my setup was the cause. The problems with that thing just never end, apparently.
So now I have to figure out a way to ground my monitor properly. Sadly, none of the power outlets in my room are grounded, and the monitor’s power cable doesn’t have a ground anyway. What am I to do, run a metal wire from the monitor to the radiator or something? There has to be a better way to do this.
Unfortunately, I’m no electrical engineer, so at best I’ll come up with a very sub-par solution. The worst case scenario isn’t killing myself though, the worst I’ve had to face from this so far was a voltage of roughly “that surprised me but didn’t really hurt”.
So uh, if the smell of burnt flesh reaches your nostrils, you should probably check what it is rather than assuming it’s me.
