Don’t overwork

You’ll regret it.

Today was my first time going to the gym since I was, what, seven? A friend of mine has a subscription to Fit for Free. You may know the name. It’s a dirty one though, because they aren’t actually free. As a friend of a regular though, I can request a free entry every sixty days. Seemed like a fun thing to try out, so I went ahead and signed up for one.

Since I haven’t done any weightlifting in forever, it wouldn’t have been a good idea to start by bench pressing sixty kilograms. So I didn’t. I started off low and found my sweet-spot from there, trying to get close to my limits. They’re for pushing, not violently and painfully breaking through.

Whatever you did, aftercare is always important. Stretch, eat well. Too bad that on the way back we missed our connection, because it rained and the trains can’t handle that here, now I won’t be getting enough hours of sleep in.

Here’s hoping I can stay awake in class tomorrow. Or, you know, walk there to begin with.

Ease in slowly, THEN activate beast mode. Always the way to go. My wife recently got back into the gym, and the first day she way overdid it. The three days after that she was a mopey puddle of jello that couldn’t move a single inch without being in agony.

Yeah, it’s probably not good to push too much at first. You could end up injuring yourself and besides, if you mentally link working out with too much pain, you won’t want to do it anymore.

Being sore is encouraging but pain? Not so much…
