The Plan

I made good progress on the lane combat project today!

Naturally, I recorded my successes in (animated) images. Had I had any silly failures, those would’ve ended up in the archive as well. Why? Because it enabled me to share my progress. And more importantly, it allows me to look back at past iterations of projects. Something about the journey being more important than the destination, all the more memorable for it, whatever. I just find it endlessly entertaining, looking back at the large and small steps a project has taken.

More importantly though, is the value it has for reflection. If you record every step forward, you can get a good idea of when you accomplished what. Gives insight into activity over time, how much you spent on the details as opposed to the bigger stuff. And of course there’s that boost “look at how far I’ve already come, let’s keep going!” Or alternatively, “I haven’t accomplished all that much yet, better work harder!”

Working harder isn’t something I should be doing right now though, my back is killing me.

I wish I did that more. Too often, I’m left years later, trying to remember how I got here. If I were a rock band, there would be no alternate takes or demos left for future generaiotns of fans to hear. I would have deleted all of them.
