Oh man, I’m going to give something back to the open source libraries and code snippets scene.
For years I’ve been using freely available libraries and whatnot in my projects. They’re a great help. There’s some kinds of things in programming that are too plain tedious to write well, or I straight-up can’t write those kinds of things well enough. You can imagine how much that work sucks when it’s needed to continue forward. Luckily, some people have been tidying up their own stuff or finding problems to solutions, and sharing that code with the whole wide world so others don’t have to suffer through the same ordeal.
And that’s great, that’s awesome, that’s probably part of the reason for the speed of the evolution of the average joe’s programming projects. And I love it so much… yet I’ve never actually contributed myself. I haven’t helped work on any community projects, I never made my own junk public, nothing.
But I just got an idea to change that. It’s something super simple, super tiny, and really, really easy to maintain. Absolutely nothing compared to a lot of other open source aids. Still, it’ll be something I’ve contributed. Something that allows me to say, “oh yeah, I open-sourced this thing I made”. Not for the bragging rights, but for the principle.
I want to give something back.
