Well, this is a first.
I told y’all about those radio stations that air christmas music all year long right? And about the ones that air christmas music of specific genres like… metal, dubstep, etc? Yeah apparently there’s christmas music to find there. Enough to run a radio channel. Thing is, I’m willing to bet most of those songs are remixes or covers. That brings us to another interesting point though: covers in different styles and genres.
If you checked out the link above (which you should before you read on), you just listened to a bossa nova lounge cover of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up”. But hey, a lounge cover of a pop song isn’t too far-fetched, now is it? But dig a little deeper, and you’ll find all kinds of covers of the internet classic. Bluegrass, house, you name it.
Kind of neat though, how different completely different genres still touch base with each other like this. Also goes to show how passionate a genre’s artists are and how popular some songs can get. You know you’ve done something right when your song’s covered by a thousand artists.
I’d almost start drawing a parallel with people using your open source software, but it isn’t quite the same.
