Local scenes

Well apparently there’s a “local/regional scene” for everything nowadays.

Spent some time playing Smash with an online community today. Got my ass handed to me a thousand times over (wasn’t until seven games in I got my first kill), but had a good time regardless. Still have plenty to learn, but I know I don’t have what it takes to become top-tier anyway. So I just keep it casual and fun, because hey, video games.

Started wondering about what tournaments and other gatherings are held in my region though. Did some digging, and apparently it’s a fairly active scene around here! The last casual play gathering was last weekend, but I don’t see any others planned for the near future. There’s plenty of tournaments on the calendar though, but sadly none of them have an amateur bracket like some of the larger tournaments do.

It’s nice knowing there’s an active local scene though. Comforting to know that no matter how niche your hobby may be considered by the general public, most of the time there’s still a group of people organizing get-togethers and other fun events. Can’t say I’ve ever attended any such meeting, but as you may’ve guessed I’m definitely planning to.

Ah, the power of shared loves.

If you know where to find them then you’ll find out about a new one soon. I live in the arse end of nowhere so there isn’t much of a local scene for anything around me. Except dancing. I’ve counted three dance studios in my town. And six barber shops.
