The first LAN party I ever attended was a great success!
It was really nice of the company Ymor to provide us with an entire floor of space to work with, as well as some great catering and technical services. Also mad props to the event’s organizers for setting this all up, and of course everyone who brought in a console or two. It made for a lot of variety in available activities, so at no point during the night did things get stale.
I participated in a League tournament with an impromptu five-man team. We started out okay, but I had a lot of network lag and at multiple points just disconnected entirely. Yeah, network lag at a LAN party. So we lost that one in the first round, which was kind of a shame, but we didn’t let it bother us too much.
The rest of the night was spent dicking around in various multiplayer games. Of course Smash Bros., Mario Kart and Tetris (it was a huge hit and I wrecked every challenger!) were being played a lot, but also a lot of older, more obscure games saw the light. Someone brought their NES, which was super rad to see. It still worked just fine, though there was a bit of glitching, at which point he took out the cartridge and blew in it, fixing the issue. Those times.
All in all, I’d say the next one can’t come soon enough!
