Because cleanliness is for chumps, right?
Nah, but let’s be real for a second. We see it in all kinds of competitive sports (though my example stems from, you guessed it, eSports). Of course it’s amazing to see the pros play a really tight game, making no mistakes and generally showing good play. It’s really interesting and a lot can be learned from them, but when it comes down to it, I’d rather watch them play sloppily.
It makes for a much more exciting game, after all. The scoreboard ticking up the entire game long, no boring 1-0 stall-outs, insane plays and low predictability. Much more enjoyable for the spectators, since there’s a lot more going on. Keeps you at the edge of your seat, you know? Forces you to pay attention, or risk missing something unexpected.
Now it isn’t fun if the team you’re rooting for loses because of downright bad play, but if they’re actually making a serious attempt you can still go “snap, that would’ve been so sweet if it worked out”.
Sounds like a cheesy line you can use to break up with someone…
