Five minutes before the deadline we handed in our stuff. Not even close baby!
If I’d have to guess, I’d say it was a combination of annoying bugs, last-minute fixes and requirement creep that caused this “we gotta spend the entire day working” schedule to appear. Requirement creep is a thing I just made up and I’m not sure if it’s a real name or not, but it is now. What I mean by it is the moments where you go “oh, shit, yeah, we also have to make and hand in that thing also”. (Moments where people go “oh yeah do this also” close before a deadline are also included, but when you experience that, just move schools/jobs/etc.)
We spent most of the day at school polishing up the game project, balancing the different Unit types and giving the UI a shiny new look… for clarity! No seriously, clarity of the UI elements was piss poor before the changes, and now we even have one of the clock-wise rotating loading bar things. Super fancy!
So we finished up the game, but there was also a bunch of documentation yet to be written. After we wrote the outline together I sat down, cracked my fingers, and got to work bullshitting my way through those documents. It wasn’t really bullshitting though, I was actually making some valid points about game balance, strategic depth, player experience, and so on. Worst part, I enjoyed it!
And just now, five minutes before the deadline, we handed it in. It’s a link though so theoretically we could continue working.
