You may have experienced a slowdown on my websites yesterday. It’s fixed now!
When I woke up this morning and everything was still acting sluggish, I knew something wasn’t right. Shot a ticket by customer support, they looked into it and got the issue fixed. Turns out someone else on the server was using an obscene amount of resources, causing slowdowns across the board. That’s one of the negatives of shared hosting environments.
Not doing such things is part of the fair use policy though, so they can easily enforce it if needed. Luckily all they had to do was give the guy a heads up, “hey your application’s eating up everything, stop that”, and he got it fixed. At least that’s what I was told happened.
Shared hosting’s shit tier for this reason, but it also makes it a very decent option for a large number of people. As long as everyone abides by the rules (and hey, most folks on shared hosting don’t need much anyway) then all’s good with the world.
Hell, even if one person uses a little more, it’s fine as long as the others use a little less, which is often the case.
