OVERWERK

Just going to plug a cool artist I discovered recently real quick.

I never really used to be into electronic music. My first few self-discovered songs (six, seven years ago now I’d guess) were in the electronic pop area, but I moved on from that quickly. Been coming back to it recently though, easing back into electronic music through tunes that also incorporate elements of other genres I like, like electro-swing or trip.

Now that I’ve gotten over the initial unease of “wow, unfamiliar genre, no idea what I like about it”, I’ve started to explore a bit more freely. And then one day I came across OVERWERK. Apparently the artist behind it is from London, which is a place in Canada? Shrug. “Overwerk” is Dutch for overtime, so that’s interesting. But that’s not what I’m here to talk about.

OVERWERK produces, you guessed it, electronic music. A lot of his tracks have a very distinct, almost soundtrack-y sound to them though. You’ll frequently hear segments of orchestral instruments throughout his songs, or suddenly notice they’ve been in the background for some time before they started intensifying just now.

It’s really cool stuff. If you’re intro electronic music, like soundtrack, or even just want to try something new, check it out.

I don’t think I have to tell you how much I like this guy’s work. And frankly, it’s nice to hear electro music that’s not just repetitive loops of the same few notes over and over and over again (the bad stereotype). Overwerk: electro done right.

That does sound like the kind of thing I’d enjoy. I’m not a major fan of electronic music but there are artists here and there I love from the genre.
