Okay, so here’s the plan, see.
I’m going to go hang with friends tonight. Someone is going to show off their new phone, and then show them a really cool feature it has. He’ll call someone in the room, picking me at random. My phone will ring, a new ringtone will be heard. As I take it out of my pocket, he will say, “when I call someone, their phone turns into this one!” From my pocket I will produce, I kid you not, a brand new bangin’ OnePlus One smartphone. My band new bangin’ OnePlus One smartphone. (OnePlus One equals Two, get it?)
Remember how I was always proud to say I was still walking around with an almost ten years old candybar phone? To my surprise, I can now say I’ve joined the digital age and upgraded it for an actual smartphone. Me, the guy who said they were to expensive and that he didn’t need one anyway.
I ordered it last Sunday, the package arrived on Tuesday (damn fast delivery!), and Project Two’s been in motion ever since. Much like Project Snip it involves doing something unexpected and only making it known to people when I see them face-to-face, via a small joke. Tonight, the pieces will fall into place and I’ll get to enjoy all kinds of wow’s and oh my’s.
So far, I’m really pleased with the One. It’s cheap, it’s strong, it’s fucking huge and I actually like it. It definitely takes some getting used to, and privacy-related settings are still a fucking mess, but I’m getting there. I may have lost some hipster points the moment I ordered this phone, but I’d say the experience so far makes up for that. Expect plenty of posts on the One, CyanogenMod and smartphones in general now that I can openly talk about it!
I’m one of the cool kids now. See y’all in hell!
