Like potatoes. Potatoes are where it’s at, I’m telling you.
I’ve made a decent variety of dishes now, but there’s a couple ingredients that have popped up far more frequently than others. I’m not talking your basic spices. The potatoes example I mentioned is pretty good. Side dish or main course, they can provide it all. Boil ’em, bake ’em, stick ’em in the oven. Don’t worry about their size, potato wedges are fucking amazing, and you can do a lot of cool things with shredded potato as well.
And eggs, oh man. I’m no fan of boiled eggs, but baked they tend to do pretty okay in my book. Or scramble them up, throw a bit of tomato in, salt, peper, oregano, put it between a sandwich and voila! They’re great for utility, too. Just today I used them to help my hash browns keep their structure. Well, I would’ve if I hadn’t used too much potato. I understand the idea behind it though, mixing an egg with a bit of flour and coating the potato scraps in it.
But back to potatoes, because I honestly can’t get enough of ’em. You know those wedges they always serve at some restaurants? Delicious, especially with a sauce you just improvised and turned out to be pretty damn good. Twice baked potato seems pretty tasty too, will have to try that later this week. But tomorrow? Salandwich.
Cooking’s turning out to be a pretty okay activity.
