Don’t put if off, tomorrow never comes!
This is a very common pitfall, mistakes, stupid move, whatever you want to call it. You have a small task you need to do, it seriously won’t take much longer than thirty minutes if you put in the effort. But eh, you’re busy with something else right now, or you’re feeling kind of tired, whatever. It can be done tomorrow as well. And then tomorrow comes, you forget about it, and then… “But it’s almost midnight already, I need to get some sleep!” Don’t you dare tell me you’ve never done such a thing, I know you have. There’s no shame in that though, for we all have committed this sin against productivity.
Can we all please agree that this is something we need to change? Because that is the first step towards actually improving, recognizing the problem. Yes? Good. You got a problem. And depending on the circumstances, it may be a really big deal. Luckily, you see the error of your ways and are willing to improve. What, “I’ll get to it tomorrow”? Don’t give me that shit, we’re doing it here.
I want you to make a rule for yourself. Print it out and hang it on your wall if you need to, as long as you don’t forget. If you have a task you will have to complete sometime, like doing the dishes or filling out those couple forms, and it doesn’t take you super long, finish it as soon as you remember you need to do it. And if it does take a fair amount of time to complete? Chop it up into manageable chunks and divide them over the coming days. Got that? Good.
Seriously though, if you keep putting things off you’ll either never get them done, or be struggling the night before the deadline. Allow yourself not to stress.
