Not actually talking the famed euphoric version, just a general feel-good one.
I went running with my dad today. Promised I’d join him once he started his runs again, and so it went down. Ran a decent distance, of course with a couple of walking breaks thrown in. (We should definitely start timing all of that next time, maybe follow a schedule even.) It went quite alright actually. My dad’s better at it than me though, he ran a lot a while back, and is now picking it up again. Naturally, I didn’t want to be outrun by him, so I kept pace and showed no sign of fear. Pushed myself a bit, but not too much, so that’s all good.
It’s not exactly a real runner’s high what I’m feeling (and/or felt) but it still made me feel good. Exercise is good for you, both physically and mentally, and it shows. Apparently I also looked a like more fit and awake. Good stuff, good stuff. This is why I always put exercise on my “how to motivation” list (eat healthy, exercise, sleep, get to work). Endorphins and such get released when you work out. The feel-good hormones, you know. And being satisfied about how much you’re not sitting on your chair helps as well.
Definitely can’t stand the sweaty mess you become though, I had to take a shower right after. It all just feels so “bleh”. Think I showered a tad early though, since I was still pretty hot by the time I came out. Apparently I should’ve rested for a little bit and let my body finish sweating? Probably because its temperature hasn’t lowered enough yet, so maybe I could’ve settled with a cold shower as well.
Go find a partner and run at least once a week. It’ll do you good.
