Talking heads

I wanted to have a part of Caves today, but couldn’t write it.

There’s some story stuff coming up that may need some explaining, but I don’t want to do it through dialogue alone. We’ll probably get that talking heads thing going again, and explaining everything solely through conversations is really lame and can essentially be labeled “talking heads” as well, since their only purpose then and there is to explain things. Kind of like a game tutorial that’s just a bunch of text. Really poorly made.

Whatever it is you want to explain or teach, it’s usually best explained through actions. Don’t plug some wall of text in there because you want to bring people up to speed and rush right along, nobody likes that. Sure, using less speech can be pretty hard at times, but trust me, it’s well worth the effort.

So what now? I’ll give myself some time to think about how I want to tackle this, and even where I’m taking the story after this. Will probably use the first thing that comes to mind because hey, spontaneous writing. You won’t get a promise or an estimate, but I’ll do my best to have the next Caves out as soon as possible, okay?

Thanks for your patience.

I would also recommend writing random little things that have no text in them. If I can write a 5000 word story with no dialogue at all you should be able to write something small that has no speech. Whatever problem you might have with writing can be fixed by writing.
