Fang Talks

The question was "what will you not find on this blog?"

I’m starting to see a pattern in my posts.

They’re mostly random, but with strong spikes in content on a particular every so often. This week (and possibly for many other weeks to come), it’s gamedev. I have some pretty neat ideas, I’m just lacking the experience and know-how on how to execute them. I’ve finished all but the Star tutorial from Catlike Coding. I intend to fiddle around with the more mechanics-y stuff after that. I’ve been inspired to try my hand at randomly generated dungeons, and after seeing someone’s “chase and flee” AI and getting confirmation on my ideas on how it works, I’ve challenged myself to make something similar. Will probably end up doing a hide-and-seek type of game as well, golly.

So yeah, as you can see by the larger-than-usual first paragraph, I’m quite into this stuff. It’s really fun, a lot more interesting than the stuff school’s teaching me (I’ll happily take C# over Java any day anyway), and if I ever get the skill to execute good ideas properly, I can make a living off of it! (Don’t count on that though. Hell, I may even end up a Jack of all Trades, and earn my income through webdev, gamedev and writing, the combined rate of income barely enough to sustain a living.)

But eh, you really know you need to take a break from the internet when any and all rhetorical or cynical statements have you cracking up for half a minute. So that’s what I’ll be doing for now.
Oh and before I go, the meeting with the customer this morning went really well. He understood everything (though still needs some practice to be able to do everything swiftly and fluidly) and complimented me on my ability to explain stuff. Hurray, I guess!

Sorry for being such a “huge nerd,” readers who aren’t interested in this stuff!

    hey) I’ve just had the same situation as you! I was searching for some resource for a long time to start learning c# and right now i’m doing a course at another web tutorial, but thankfully I now know where to continue)) at catlike coding)) Thanks for the tip!

    Unity and C#

    ..excited.. =D

    I hated Java with a passion and liked C++ over it but that was many years ago!

    A hide-and-seek game? Technically Slender is a hide and seek game (if what I’ve read about the code is correctly) and you’re just a really shitty hider.

    Well I’m your only reader, and I’m a nerd, so it’s all good.

    I just realised how harsh that sounded D:

    Glad the customer stuff went well though, I’m terrible at explaining things to people. Gamedev, writing, and webdev as ways of living…it all depends on what you’re developing (and writing) and for whom. But if the circumstances are right it’s not so bad and you could probably find some way to combine the three. The things that go in to them are similar across all three.
