Grading tests

Totally aggravating.

Not that I’ve ever had to myself, that’s not what I’m talking about. I’m referring to three of the four tests from last week that still haven’t been graded. They were all multiple-choice for the most part, so checking them shouldn’t be that hard or take that much time, now should it? Especially since one of the sheets was one that could be read by a computer.

It’s stupid. Teachers shouldn’t leave their students in the dark for this long. I can see it being very upsetting if you’re not sure if you’ve made it, and there’s a lot hanging on it. But even if it’s not important what your grade is, you still want to know it, and not have to wait for it a week or more.

Yeah sure they’re probably busy with other stuff, but the one test that already got graded was the one that took the most amount of time to check, and I had the grade for that in a day. Ridiculous.

But hey, guess we can’t expect much more from schools these days, now can we?

I guess these problems are worldwide. I know a lot of profs that take weeks to mark a simple scantron exam. ._.

I guess I can give a different perspective since I’ve been on the other side of the grading thing.
If TAs grade your exams, it’s usually done pretty darn quickly. At least where I work, we start marking the day of, or the day after the exam takes place.

We usually enter the marks into a spreadsheet but then it’s out of our hands. The prof or whoever is in charge of publishing the marks is now in charge. And depending on the number of courses he/she handles, this can take a long time, espeically since I don’t know what the process is (i.e. if they double check or do any double checking).

Our tests for biochemical classes basically all consist of like 6 open questions and 60 multiple choice, of the sort that’s read by a computer. They easily take 2 weeks at least to grade them. I don’t even. It made the wait for my resit grade quite harrowing. Although in the end I did make it, so no harm no foul, I guess.

I thought most multiple choice exams WERE graded by a computer. Normally when I did a test (other than the really big ones you did at the end of school) I got the results by the next week, so yeah having to wait as long as you have done is a bit unfair.
