Television

Short rant incoming, so be warned!

I can understand the appeal of television, sure. With the wide variety of content and whatnot. But in the end, it’s all stupid, mindless consuming of information. All people do is hang on a couch and stare at the same point for long periods of time, without them getting involved in any way.

Sure, there’s some really informative channels and documentaries out there, and TV is a good place to catch up with the news, but other than that I don’t really like it. Especially when my sister sits in front of the TV all day watching nothing but silly cartoons and terribly dubbed series that have no good plot or anything whatsoever.

But hey, I shouldn’t care, right? I do. Television need more informative channels, especially ones that appeal to kids. Or maybe those exist, but we’ve dumbed down the younger generations so much that they’re just not interested in them.
…and biased. At the very sight of subtitles my sis’s all “oh boring” just because it’s in English. Like what the hell?

Do you watch the telly often?

These days, I watch a lot of the history channel. Can’t stand the idea of getting used to(and addicted!) to TV shows…

I love television but I do agree the quality of it is going done and done and as it goes done our Kids are going to be exposed to the crap that is MTV reality shows and such.. SO yeah, need more informative and educational shows again.

Television isn’t as bad as you’re making out. I don’t agree with dumping kids in front of it all day but the same goes for not letting them play video games all day too. There are educational programmes out there for kids and adults alike – you just need to watch them. Fair enough there are shit loads of pointless reality tv shows but again, you don’t have to watch them. No one is making people watch the dumbed down shows – it’s down to the people choosing to watch them.

When I was a kid I loved watching all the cartoons and now as an adult, I watch my television shows, the soaps and comedy panal shows as well as documentaries. I don’t see the harm in it. Some people watch their shows online so does that make it any different? No.

I don’t watch a whole lot of TV. I play games more than I watch TV, which is slightly more engaging than the old idiot box. There are channels that are supposed to be engaging to kids but we dumbed down the channels and in the process dumbed down the kids.

I always watch shows with subtitles when I can. I just enjoy reading that much. It’s a good thing as well given how I almost always refuse to watch dubbed anime.
