what have i done

Hot damn guys, get this: Samsung makes home appliances.

This is probably old news to most of you, but the Samsung Refrigerator is an actual refrigerator. I found out about this yesterday, and my mind was blown by the number of home appliances they make. I always thought “Samsung Refrigerator” was a codename for some new mobile phone or something, hell if I knew!

Okay okay you can stop laughing at my stupidity now.
But eh, what? a “smart refrigerator”? Seems pretty damn stupid. Okay, so your fridge has WiFi access and can download and display recipes, and keep track of what’s inside of it. Also lots of other neat features. Cool!

But what’s the point of having a refrigerator capable of doing that when there’s other, way better and more portable devices most likely already present in your home, such as a laptop or (ugh) tablet? They have improved portability, and can do even more than your “smart” refrigerator can.

They offer “dumb” products as well, though. Can’t see any high-tech integrated into their microwaves, really. They’ll probably be “smarted” sometime in the future, though.

Wait a second… This is the future!

Crazy right? They do indeed make home appliances. Pretty decent ones at that. But their phones are still way better than anything else they make. That is where the bulk of their R&D is focused.

Definitely not old news to me… never knew Samsung made refrigerators.

I want a frige that will tell me when something has expired or when I’m running low on something

No this is still the present. Though I can see them one day making appliances that do everything for you. Then we have some kind of holocaust where there’s no tech left, and we all die because we forgot how to cook. I’ve heard of smart refrigerators before but I had no idea Samsung made any. They sound like a reasonably neat idea. They keep track of what’s in the fridge and they produce shopping lists for you but there’s a much cheaper way to do that.
