Obtrusive ads

Overwhelmingly irritating. This is why we have things such as AdBlock.

I’m talking websites here, know that. But God, it’s everywhere. From the well-known video advertisements on YouTube you have to sit through to the less well-known ones that pop up in the bottom right corner, all flashy and shit. I’m okay with ads being there, and even an image ad is not that much of a problem, but please, people of the internet, keep it classy.

Like I said, I’m fine with people running ads on their sites. If they’re not a commercial site then they’ve got to pull the money for their hosting fees from somewhere, right? I’m even okay with the banner image ones. But once they start animating that shit, or use flash or make it move into your face in whatever way, I’m out of there so fast they didn’t even see me.

Or the ones “yeah you’re the millionsteth visitor to our website have this car”. I’m a firm believer that there are sites out there who actually do this, but get stuck with the prize because the winner doesn’t want it. But who can blame the people? The ads are flashy and seizure inducing and make you want to punch your monitor.

Sleekly integrated text-ads are my favourites, AS LONG AS you can tell the difference between an ad and the site content.
Also annoying: ad links IN the side content. Usually those green links.

Good design is great, until it’s ruined by obnoxious, ugly or otherwise stupid ads.

The worst ones are the porn ads, especially the ones in inappropriate places. NO I DON’T WANT TO FUCK A LOCAL SLUT. NOW LET ME WATCH THE LAST AIRBENDER.

You’re absolutely right about that. It’s absolutely disgraceful, though I can see why they do it. We’re so tuned to simply ignore it, we practically pretend we can’t see it no more.

Ads are annoying. And if they’re going to have an ad, at least make it clever to entertain me while I’m being forced to look at it.

Wishing you continued success with the A to Z challenge,

I hate the ones that force you to fill out a survey to gain access to the site.

I hate obtrusive ads too. And I hate those green linky types as well

I really do hate obtrusive ads, but I do wonder how many people HAVE been the millionth customers, and DID win a prize, but never claimed it.

So true. Like the ANNOYING SIDE BAR ones in my email-inbox. Anytime you come close with the cursor, THEY JUMP OUT AT YOU, CAUSING YOU TO UNINTENTIONALLY CLICK THEM. Caps rage.
