Fang Talks

Coding with your clogs on.

Or how one can make good music.

I’m not strictly speaking about a single genre here, ’cause this basically goes for all music ever: it has to GRAB you. It has to give your heart a +20 pumps per minute boost. It has to make you feel like doing a acrobatic fucking pirouette off of your feet, or try really hard to hold back tears. Or even a combination of those!

Example from the soundtrack genre here. Was watching this series a while back, totally scary, badass character comes out of fucking nowhere. Battle, initiated. Background music, playing more loudly than the voices.
It didn’t contribute to the epic situation, it didn’t add to the epic battle. It made the battle epic! It got my heart pumping like crazy, got me to sit on the tip of my seat. It’s really hard to describe, but it felt really exciting.
And THAT is how it should be done.

I’ve been discovering more and more really good composers lately, and I’m kind of amazed with how much is possible when it comes to composing music. Creative minds make great stuff.

As long as it has piano in it I’ll find a way to like it. :P

Toshiro Masuda, That is all. Soundtracks are different from regular music in that they have to fit the scene, they have to improve on what you are seeing. You’ll notice it if you listen to a soundtrack while not watching/playing whatever it was you were doing when you heard it. It just doesn’t feel the same.

I completely understand what you mean. The right music at the right scene could make a good show turn godly.
