It’s like Inception, but then with time travel.
Actually no, it isn’t. But there still is a hell lot of mindfuck involved. Allowed me to explain.
The story starts with some pretty confusing events. To sum it up, a self-proclaimed “mad scientist” has “invented” a way to send text messages to the past. Doing this will, of course, chance the past and causes a new future: a new world-line is created.
After doing this a few times, the protagonist sees how big of an influence he can have on the world. Meanwhile, more mindfuck happens.
After a while they manage to send memories of your present self to your past self, up to a maximum of 48 hours back in time. An organisation knows about this, runs into their “lab”, and kills someone. The protagonist then, using their newly-created device, relives that day over and over to save his friends life, but fails every time.
After that, complicated explanations and discussions follow, knowledge of the future emerges, and so on. All in all, it takes some thinking to understand everything, and even then you’ll be confused sometimes.
Steins;Gate is an anime based on the visual novel game with the same name, and it’s fucking awesome. I like myself a hefty storyline with lots of complications every now and then, and Steins;Gate is just that. It not only has you think to understand the story (how this affected that, what just happened, etc.), but also makes you think about time travel and its dangers.
So hereby I recommend Stins;Gate as anime recommendation for the month. I actually should’ve done an “Anime of the Month” thing yesterday, at the end of July, but meh. Maybe we can get an official Anime of the Month or recommendation thing going here? We’ll see what the future holds.
Have a nice day, all!
