Test week 5/9 - Joke of the week edition!
Hahahahaha! Oh boy this is hilarious, get this!
So the Dutch writing test went good enough. Used surprisingly little metaphors to describe music though, wonder what's up with that. But yeah, got a little over the max amount of words, which isn't too bad (actually, you're allowed a 10% margin, so I'm sure I'm safe there). Not too sure if I put in all the criteria, but I don't think our teacher is going to look at those very specifically. He'll probably grade is by awesomeness or something.
But here's the joke.

Saw a comment on a YouTube video of a soundtrack today, someone described how the song basically summarised part of the plot. I was like "omg dude thats so kakoii". That's when an idea was formed in my head, related to one with which I've been toying for a longer time now.
What if I were to take a good soundtrack every now and then, and do some tiny/short-story writing based on it? user-submissions, too. How would you guys like that?

Final test week 1/9 I guess?
Had my Dutch oral (cut it with the dirty jokes already, it stopped being funny a long time ago) today, went pretty okay. 6.8 (out of 10), good enough.

I read three books today.
Actually no I just read their summaries and noted some stuff down, that's all.
Got my Dutch oral tomorrow, got to tell my (in conversations dominant) teacher all about the books I read. Boy oh boy is that a task I'm not looking forward to.
As said, I didn't read all of the books on my list. Sure, I read most of them, but come on, I already read, like, fucken twelve or something, couldn't really be arced to read another three, now could I?

Lack of original content on social media
Mainly focussing on Twitter here, though I'd say this applies to most social media.
There's this Dutch account I follow on Twitter. They used to have great, funny things, mostly related to "modern x", "x" being cities, roads, et cetera. ("Broadbandway", for example.)
They gained more following rather quickly, and soon lost their spark. Nowadays they mostly blatantly translate popular tweets (often the ones retweeted by @toptweets) and post them as if they were their own. Images, too. Sure, it's still good content, but what the balls happened to original content?

Seriously though, what's the deal with the distinct differences and rivalry between British English and American English? Why not just have everyone STICK WITH TRUE BRITISH ENGLISH?

She's going to be presenting her works (those with me as the star, but other works too) tomorrow, and hopefully she'll get admitted to that school. She really should, 'cause she put a hell lot of effort into this. (Yeah sure, all people do, but she's one of my friends so she deserves it more.)

Last night was awesome, woohoo! Had a really great night with friends as usual. Lev, you should come over more often!

Happy "dress in green and drink gallons of beer" day, everyone!
In all honesty, I'm not really celebrating this holiday. Never have, really. Though I did buy a bottle of green liquor yesterday, to bring to friends tonight, but I bought it without even thinking about St Patty's Day, so I don't think it really counts.

Getting stuff done is good!
People are nudging me to do a blog post, so apparently it's getting late already. Only twenty minutes left 'til tomorrow, so I'd better hurry with this!
Today I learned what many have learnt before me: getting stuff done feels good. Got some stupid tasks out of the way today, and made pretty decent progress on a site I'm making for a friend's portfolio. Yay, go me!

SketchBox, Mac OSX sticky-notes app
Spent all my creativity today on writing a guest post for Mark, and all of my energy at school and at work just now. Bluh.
But that's not why we're here today. I found this little gem only a couple of hours back, and I'm already madly in love with it.
SketchBox is a sticky-notes application for Mac OSX, much like the default Stickies, but much richer when it comes to features and flexibility. For example, you can easily include images or other media in your notes.

Did this little "use a random number generator, match number with theme, and write short story" thing yesterday. My theme/word to work with was "curse".
To be honest that doesn't really show that well, but it can be interpreted as such. Also, my tenses are all over the place as usual. Fucken time shenanigans.

Guitar vlog: Seven Nation Army
Damn, I always hate how these turn out. ):
Learned Seven Nation Army by White Stripes recently, so of course that had to go in the vlog. Short version, and not one-take or anything. Pieces cut together. Thought I could pull it off nicely, but it's still shit.
Meh, maybe I should just drop this and instead play songs fully, at full speed, with background music when I learn them. Sounds so much better. Less shitty content, too. Whoo!

A while back, Hazel posted on her blog that she was going to take part in some challenge. Blogging from A to Z, April 2012.I got interested, went to the challenge site, and discovered what this was all about. During the month April of the year 2012, you work your way through the alphabet, blogging about the letters or related subjects as you go along. A letter a day, and Sundays off (except for April 1st, which is a Sunday (not even joking)).

Thanks all for your comments on yesterday's post. Most of you guys were like "if you need it then get it", while there were some who just sat there, saying "I have no idea what you're on about".
But I think I'll be transferring soon. I'll keep my domain name registered with my old registrar, so that I still get the "a gig a year for free" bonus if I ever return. Got to keep a backup plan ready, right?
But g'damn, 150GB is hosting space. It'll be like moving into a castle after you've lived in a crammed house with fifty other people your whole life. I can't wait!

Possibly switching to a new web host
Ahyup, you read that right. Not even a customer at my current host for a year yet, and I'm already looking into switching.
Current situation: 30 Euros (39 Dollars) a year for a domain name and web hosting. Web hosting is Linux-based and includes 1GB of disk space (+1GB for every full year you've been a customer), unlimited bandwidth*, Perl, 10 MySQL databases, and other basic features such as FTP access, et cetera.
* Every month, the average bandwidth usage is measured. This amount, times 10, is the amount of bandwidth you are allowed to use. If this month's average is lower than last month's, last month's average will be used. (aka the max will stay the max until it's increased)

Mentioned by some people already, I'll go into it a bit deeper now.
Yesterday I informed you about the Kony2012 thing. Lots of positive feedback about it on my blog, but I found some people who weren't all that happy with it. That isn't to say they didn't think it's good people like Kony get caught and whatnot. Allow me to explain.

What it boils down to is that Kony2012 is an amazing initiative, but it isn't that well set up, and the effectiveness of their actions are not optimal. Investing money in them may not be worthwhile.

Anyway, I'm here to rant, once again. And, again, on fanbases. One really fucken stupid on in particular. Yeah, you saw it coming, you guessed it, the Apple fanbase.
God, those annoying elitists, thinking they're better because they got an expensive computer, and defending their lovely company no matter what position it is in.
Allow me to elaborate.

Well actually no it isn't a vlog, but secretly it is. Don't tell anyone though!
Just recorded me saying hi to you guys, playing guitar, and saying bye. I had it all planned out and it would be so much more awesome, but fuck me, it's hella awkward being in front of your own camera with nobody around like that.
I'd be my normal crazy self, because that would make for a much more enjoyable video, but I couldn't. Also I keep hating myself for my English pronunciation. It may sound decent, but the way it comes out of my mouth feels so wrong. (Oh boy, innuendo, right there.)

House of the Rising Sun
'sup guys, musical Fang here.
My friend who's teaching me how to play guitar recently taught me the chords needed for playing House of the Rising Sun, by The Animals. However, just strumming them didn't produce the characteristic "pinging" sound. It did give you the right tones though, so I practiced with regular strumming for a while.

Okay cool I actually have a functional electric guitar now.
Or rather, a non-dead wire. (Also, huge post title there!)
So, I returned my guitar a while back, due to it not working properly and it having scratches all over it. Got a new one today.
It didn't have a lot of scratches on it, the coating was completely in-tact, and it looked pretty good overall. A new guitar, sweet.

Busy times, again, again
I wonder how many times I've used "busy times" as a post title by now. I may be a record-holder!
My job's been rather busy recently, so a lot of time goes into that. Recently climbed my echeladder from "Unsavvy Codegirl" to the "Leading Programmo-Tike" rung though, and netted me my first few Boondollars. A lot more echeladder climbing lies ahead of me!
Also updating a website post-haste as I type this. The file-uploads take forever though.
On top of that, school. Intending on finally getting that huge-ass essay done this weekend, but I ain't really got time on days other than Sunday. Why?
