I know it sounds complicated, but bear with me for a second here.
This, but also this, and especially these need a proper English word for them. Why? Literally taking over the Dutch word is stupid and sounds shitty. So I ask you guys to aid me in this, my epic quest for a proper word for those for use in the English language.
It always bothers me when I want to tell someone about this or that Dutch thing and why it's one of the few bright spots in our country, but then I have to fumble for descriptive words and comparisons and make myself look like an idiot. The easy way out would be the Dutch word (or something very similar), as suggested by Wikipedia, but nobody would know what the hell I was talking about, so I'd end up describing it anyway.
But yeah pepernoten are like the best thing ever. They're a tad early again this year, but I don't mind. Gives me enough time to stockpile, like, twenty kilograms of the things, so I can enjoy them in the summer as well. (They're seasonal, due to them being heavily associated with the Sinterklaas thing which I talked about here. So you can only get 'em between late September and late December.)
More than enough bullshit for today.
